The Baptism

This weekend we had Andrew's Baptism in San Antonio at my parents' house. Andrew and I had an adventure getting to San Antonio on Thursday. We waiting at Love Field for 7 hours before boarding a plane to San Antonio... We had terrible weather in Dallas and flights could not leave or land in Dallas. Andrew was REALLY good during the LONG wait. During the wait our flight was delayed at least four times, cancelled, reinstated, and moved to other flights two times! We took a lot of rides in the stroller, had tummy time on the floor with pashminas (they were out of blankets to sell, so I had to buy something for him to lay on). He had a lot of apple juice and formula too. A miracle occurred and one plane was going to take off! The Southwest Airlines employees were trying to get people on our flight on the new flight before it took off. We were one of the last people called to get on this flight. Everyone in the area clapped and cheered and one man said, "I'm so glad the baby is getting on a flight!" We finally arrived in San Antonio around 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.









Friday was a lot smoother! Kurt and Nora (Brad's uncle and aunt from NY) flew in for the Baptism. Andrew and I picked them up from the airport and they came to our house for the afternoon. We relaxed and visited. Later in the afternoon, Brad, Dave and Cindy (Brad's parents), Casey and Dave (Brad's sister and brother-in-law), Jacob, Nathan, and Mary Elizabeth (Casey and Dave's kids- our nephews and niece) drove in from Dallas. We all hung out and played with Andrew for the afternoon. That evening we went to Casa Rio for dinner. We met Carlos's parents Mary Angeles and Charles and Mayte (Carlos's sister) for dinner too! We all had a great time. Mary Elizabeth did a great job of keeping Andrew happy all night. When he would get tired, she would talk to him and make him smile! It was so cute. At the end of the night, Andrew spit up all over the floor at Casa Rio. Luckily it did not get Mary Elizabeth or me. A young couple behind us was totally mortified and swore off children forever! Later that night Heather and Carlos (my sister and brother-in-law drove down from Dallas with my brother, Rick.











Saturday morning we all met at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church for the Baptism. Father Salis (who married Heather and Carlos) baptized Andrew. Brad and I got married at St. Peter's about 3 years ago and we wanted Andrew to be baptized in the same church we were married in. The Baptism was not during mass. It was very personal and Father Salis did a wonderful job with the Baptism. Heather (my sister) and Dave (Brad's sister's husband/ our brother-in-law) are the Godparents. We dressed Andrew for the Baptism at the church because he spits up a lot... Of course as soon as he got his outfit on, he spit up all over Brad and then all over me. He also continued to spit up during the entire Baptism. It would not have the same without spit up!












After the Baptism we headed to my parents' house for an afternoon of relaxing, swimming, visiting, and eating! We had lunch and snacks when we arrived at the house. The kids were anxiously awaiting to swim. Andrew was exhausted from a busy morning of becoming very holy, so he took a three hour nap! Father Salis joined us for a little while and we all really enjoyed spending more time with him. Dad was getting his famous ribs ready, Mom was getting potatoes and beans ready, and the rest of us were having a great time visiting, napping, and relaxing. When Andrew woke up, he went swimming for the first time. He had a wonderful time. We made sure he was really covered up well. He has extremely fair skin! Andrew swam with Mary Elizabeth, Nathan, Brad, and me. We had a delicious dinner in the early evening. Andrew could not have ribs, so he enjoyed some peas and carrots. After he finished his dinner, we gave Andrew some Cheerios to play with for the first time. He is still too young to eat them, but he sure enjoyed picking them up, dropping them on the floor, and slamming his tray and watching them go everywhere! We were all so full, we had to do some more resting and relaxing after dinner. We had delicious cakes to celebrate the Baptism and Mary Angeles and Cindy's birthdays. Andrew had to go to bed, so he missed opening his presents, but Mary Elizabeth helped us open them. Andrew got a lot of great things for his Baptism! We were so blessed to have everyone come all the way to San Antonio to celebrate Andrew's Baptism with us.





















Sunday morning Andrew slept in until about 8:00 a.m. He had so much excitement this weekend... He was so tired from a fantastic weekend full of lots of fun! We drove back to Dallas with Brad's parents in the early afternoon. The ride home was a little tough. Andrew did not want to be in the car seat, so he cried a lot. We finally made it back and Andrew got to stretch out on the floor and play! Now he is down for the night resting up for another great day tomorrow!

Brad and I want to thank everyone for helping us celebrate Andrew's Baptism. We appreciate everyone who traveled to San Antonio to be with us during this special time. Some of our family and friends were unable to join us, but let us know that we were in their thoughts and prayers. We want to especially thank my parents for hosting the wonderful party after the Baptism. It was a great party and everyone really enjoyed themselves. It would not have been possible without them.
