Adventurous Andrew

Andrew is one Adventurous little boy! There have been a lot of first in the past couple of weeks. Let's see... Andrew is now crawling! He is all over the house and into everything! Thank goodness the TV is on the wall. Andrew is learning a very important word too... "No". He loves to crawl to the entertainment center and hit on the glass. He has also found the DVD buttons and loves to push those too. When you tell him no and give him a little slap on the hand, he throws himself backwards and has a little temper tantrum. Then he moves on to something else... within a few minutes, he gives me a little laugh and a grin and speeds back to the entertainment center. We think he is going to be into electronics like his Uncle Rick. Since he is moving around soooo much, he tires out easily. One day he even fell asleep on his daddy. He just couldn't keep his head up anymore!

Andrew had his first babysitter, Miss Krystal. Krystal is one of Andrew's teachers at Concordia! When Krystal came to the house, Andrew was so excited and smiled at her right away! She came to babysit him last weekend while Brad and I went out to dinner. We went to Cafe R and D and then got some ice cream. It was really nice, but we missed our little guy! We are going to work on getting out a little more.

Andrew also has a new favorite pastime. After his bath, we allow him to have what we call "Naked Time". He crawls around naked on the floor in his room and plays with a few stuffed animals. He also likes to crawl into the bathroom to find something to get into. He loves his humidifier and tries to pull himself up on it! Yes, he is pulling himself up on his knees and for the first time today, he pulled himself up to his feet on the side of the ottoman. Anyway, there must be something "freeing" for babies when they are naked because Andrew would crawl around naked all day if you let him. Thank goodness we haven't had any accidents yet!

Andrew really wants to be a big boy because not only is he crawling and pulling up, he is also trying to feed himself. As you will see below, the sight is quite messy! He thinks it is a lot of fun.

His favorite time of day (besides Naked Time), is bath time! He loves to play with his toys in the bath and he loves the water. He sticks his head under the faucet and lets the water run down his face. He sticks his hands in the water constantly and splashes around. He has several new towels from his grandma, Nee. His other towels were getting too small for him, so he has graduated to "kid" towels. He has a monster, a dog, and a duck. He also has a frog towel from some of my friends at BSE.

Choo-Choo! Andrew got new helmet stickers too! He has trains and train tracks right now!

Last week Andrew had exciting visitors! His grandma, Nee, and his cousins (Jacob, Nathan, and Mary-Elizabeth) came to visit him for a few days! He loved getting to spend time with him. The kids played with him and he loved all the attention. We went swimming at my neighbor, Vivian's house one day and Andrew was amazed by how well all the kids could swim. Andrew was more comfortable in the pool. At first he was a little timid, but then he began smiling and splashing around. Andrew wanted to be around the kids all the time. When the kids were at the table doing an activity or eating, Andrew wanted to be able to see what they were doing. I think he is ready to be a big kid, but Brad and I are not ready for that yet! We already think he is growing up too fast!

We have some exciting helmet news! We thought Andrew was going to need a second helmet. When I went to Cranial Technologies a week and a half ago, they told me it was "optional" but recommended... Well, to a first time parent and especially one like me (ha!), that translates to YES! We went ahead and signed off for a second helmet. Andrew's head is looking great and we are so happy with the progress. We had to take him to the pediatrician last week because he was sick and it was just a cold. I suspected it, but when I am not sure, I want to take him in to make sure!! I decided I needed to ask all the questions I could think of to get the most of my 20 dollar co-pay. We sure do shell out a lot of co-pays to the pediatrician's office. Brad decided to meet me there and we asked that the doctor look at his his and check his leg (Andrew got it stuck in the crib and Brad was really worried about it). Turns out his leg is fine, he has a cold, and the pediatrician does NOT recommend a second helmet! He said that Andrew's head looks great and that it will continue to change until he is 2 years old. He also said that if Andrew's head looked the way it does now in the beginning, he would not have recommended him for a helmet. The helmet has done its job! So, we decided to follow the doctor's orders and not go with the second helmet. This means that Andrew will be out of his helmet in a few weeks! He still has a couple of more adjustments in the current helmet.

Last but not least, Andrew tried something new at home today... FINGER PAINTING. He has made things at daycare, so I decided we would make a few works of art at home. All I can say is MESSY, MESSY, MESSY! We had a great time and Andrew is probably the next Picasso! He is our little genius! :)

Have a great week!

Love,
Brad, Jen, and Andrew
